new name for the Group

The admins of the group recently had a discussion about our name, and felt it was time for a change.

Over 10 years ago we went through a consensus process on the Yahoo group to determine what our name should be (at the time it had been Gay Wiccans UK), and the outcome of that was the name “Gay Pagans UK”. As a group we hold a general belief in the principles of inclusiveness and diversity, as reflected in the LGBTQ Pagans the group exists for. As such we were aware that the group’s name didn’t reflect that inclusiveness and diversity, ie that “gay” only describes a section of those we wish to include.

We weren’t going to go through a formal consensus process again (internet based groups probably aren’t ideal subjects, and our rather inadequate first name change had been the result of one already), but we did throw the subject open to discussion.

We had a fair bit of feedback from the Facebook group, and a name was suggested  by a member which got good support from both members and admin, and really no objections, and this is the name we have selected:

Rainbow Pagans UK – LGBTQ Pagans UK and Ireland.

So, we present you with our new name, which we feel does represent (and hopefully encourage) diversity and inclusion. The name change applies to this blog, the Facebook Group and the original Yahoo Group.
